Life was hard for couple Nick and Meghan Lucido but they successfully went past each hurdle and succeeded BIG TIME!Just a few years back, the couple was just some young enduring professionals in Georgia. Grinding and hustling every single day just to pay their bills and put food on their plates, as Nick described it, they were “keeping up with the Joneses.”
They started having that ‘survival mode’ attitude when they began drowning in a huge amount of debt. When their first child was born, the couple knew their lives had to have an ultimate change of course. So, they decided to sell their 2,000-square-foot home, and soon after, they moved into a camper van.
They knew that way, they’d be able to manage their finances, save up, and pay off their debt.
Turns out, they made the right decision because the move made way for them to pay off $82,000 worth of debt!
They also moved out of the camper van and bought a Home Depot shed that’s about $27,000! The couple had the shed renovated in the depths of the mountainous part of Georgia. Nick and Meghan managed to turn the shed into a home.
“We bought our code book, we met with the local code enforcement, we did everything that needed to be done to convert that into a home,” Nick said.
The shed turned into a two-story,860-square-foot home with one bedroom, deck, and working plumbing. In total, they had to invest around $60,000 to achieve the complete transformation of the shed, and by looking at the result, yes – it’s all worth it!
“It was very radical and extreme but we wouldn’t have it any other way,” Nick added.
Their original plan was to make the shed their temporary home and they wanted to build their dream home on the same property.
Then the pandemic started and prices including home prices spiked all across the country. Everyone was definitely going through hard times, however, they saw that as a good opportunity to sell their property at a good price.
“We had a lot of people tell us we should Airbnb it out. It was kind of like, ‘Let’s just list it and see what happens.’ And we got a lot of hits on it. It was like, ‘Oh, maybe people do like this,’” said Meghan.
Also, during the pandemic, a lot of people started moving out of the crowded cities to lessen their chances of getting the deadly virus. Nick and Meghan’s property was the best escape destination for people who wanted to be safe while enjoying the comfort of a place they can proudly call home.
“I think it was an ideal space and with the market the way it was at the time, people were escaping Atlanta and the metro area and people wanted a little privacy and seclusion and I think that property delivered a lot,” Nick said.
In April of 2021, the couple sold their renovated shed for $312,000!
That’s a whopping $225,000 profit! Nick and Meghan used the money in building their dream home. They are definitely on a roll because apart from having their dream home and being debt free, the couple is also on a mission to a healthier life, you can check their journey to fitness on Nick’s Instagram account.
They were heavily in debt, lived in a camper van, went debt free, bought a Home Depot for about $27,000, and sold it for $312,000. Then finally, built their own dream house! Definitely a must-tell comeback story!
